Our Neighborhood Group has been granted $9,000 in Neighborhood Improvement Project monies to renovate the entry sign islands at Quebec, Jersey and the north end of S. Pratt Pkwy, and an additional $3,000 in Sustainable Neighborhood Solutions monies for the sign on Missouri. The money has recently been released and we now have until December 3rd to get the projects completed. We have assembled two separate teams, one for each of the grants, and plans are underway to tackle these projects.

A portion of the estimated cost for these improvements relies on volunteer hours directly from the Southmoor Park community
After a couple of weeks of delays, it looks like we are finally ready to start! Loco Construction will begin at Quebec and Main Thursday, December 2nd at 9 am. They are now estimating approximately eight days for this project. They will be moving rock, removing dirt, digging holes, grading and leveling, placing barrier, etc. This will all need to be completed ASAP, absolutely before the end of December, for the City to honor the grant money.
We are still in need of many volunteers.
We have a virtual sign up sheet!
The Volunteer Sign Up Sheet has been updated to reflect these delays, with actual days and times – please sign up via the below link if you are interested in doing so π

Types of Volunteer Opportunities Available
We will be needing a team of at least five community volunteers during this work week at all times.
Two people will need to help provide safety to motorists, pedestrians, etc. by directing them appropriately around the construction area and cones .
Another person to assist with addressing any questions that may arise by the contractor during the process by calling appropriate team members to find answers.
Two volunteers will also be asked to sweep and clean up after the landscape company is finished with one island and moving equipment to the next island.
We will be in need of volunteers to assist with setting Torii Gates into the ground, waterproofing/tarring the stumps, setting stumps into the ground and spreading gravel – let us know whether or not you are able to assist. There should be both weekday and weekend opportunities available.
We could also use people to provide snacks and/or lunches on all work days. Just one person per shift should be sufficient.
||||| I’ve had a lot of questions about this one, so I’ll try to address it here. It’s not necessary, but would be nice, to have someone bring the crew “pandemic friendly” snacks and drinks. This would be something individually wrapped (cookies, crackers, chips, etc. – could do something healthier if you can think of something, maybe hummus packets??? Use your imagination and listen to your budget!). Drinks would be gatorades, iced teas, sodas, etc. I’ve never been on a worksite where the crew turns down a gatorade…just saying π
Most of the workers will most likely have their own lunch, or they will break so they can run and get something. And, the volunteers are all from within the neighborhood, so home is close by. However, I’m not sure if there will be the need on any of the days for someone to run and get sandwiches or something – can’t anticipate what might happen. So, this volunteer would also be the person to help out in this situation. This task is a lower level one (no heavy lifting, etc.) for people who would like to help out but are not able to do any labor or stand for long periods of time. |||||
Any and all volunteers will be greatly appreciated!
Please contact us if you have further questions or would like to participate. Let us know dates and times you would be available, as well as which position you feel called to assist with.

Neighborhood beautification is an important aspect of maintaining a desirable quality of life for the neighborhood as a whole. We have pulled together as a community to obtain these grants – we can thank Daniel for getting the ball rolling! Having a nicer visual representation of our neighborhood should result in a higher percentage of owner occupancy, resulting in an accomplishment we can all take pride in.
Neighborhood celebration to follow!!! Info signs will be posted around the neighborhood later this month, or contact us to let us know you are interested in attending! We could also use volunteers to help in planning this celebration. Click Here to let us know you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.
We live in a great neighborhood – letβs talk to our neighbors, take some ownership and get excited about these projects!
